About the Author
Michael Newton, Ph.D., holds a doctorate in Counseling Psychology, is a certified Master Hypnotherapist, and is a member of the American Counseling Association. He has also been on the faculty of higher educational institutions as a teacher while active in private practice in Los Angeles. Over many years, Dr. Newton developed his own intensive age regression techniques in order to effectively take hypnosis subjects beyond their past life memories to a more meaningful soul experience between lives. He is considered to be a pioneer in uncovering the mysteries about life after death through the use of spiritual hypnotic regression. He now trains other advanced hypnotherapists in his techniques. In Michael Newton's first two books, Journey of Souls: Case Studies of Life Between Lives and Destiny of Souls: New Case Studies of Life Between Lives, you get to witness his ground-breaking discovery of the existence we live between lives. Through many case studies, Dr. Newton paints a vivid picture of life between lives, shattering many commonly-held beliefs about the nature of God, the Universe and our reason for being.As editor of Memories of the Afterlife: Life Between Lives Stories of Personal Transformation, he continues the journey but this time through the efforts of 32 experienced practitioners from all over the planet who completed their training at the Michael Newton Institute. Their stories are no less fascinating as they enhance the credibility of the earlier works by repeating and reinforcing this shared glimpse of the afterlife. The case studies represent a variety of life situations, all with the powerful life-changing insights that can only be gained by remembering who you truly are, why you came here and with whom you are sharing the ride.Although certainly not a pre-requisite, if you haven't read Journey/Destiny of Souls I recommend you do so as these classics will explain things in a bit more organized and detailed fashion and will help fill in the blanks. MEMORIES OF THE AFTERLIFE is more unfettered and assumes at least a passing belief in life between lives rather than trying to prove it. I found it to be an excellent complement although it surely stands on its own as a fascinating read full of information and insight. I also found an interesting phenomenon absent in the earlier books - that you can get direct guidance about present situations from the LBL world while seemingly experiencing past events, showing that our concepts of past and present really don't extend beyond our limited physical reality.If you are stuck in the belief that you have one life in which to get it right and then it's either heaven or hell for eternity, then this book probably isn't for you. If you are open to a belief in multiple lives (along with the majority of people on this planet), then I highly recommend this book as it will help shed some light on the age-old quest regarding the nature of our immortality.
Not as good as the first two books, but interesting. However, I visited one of the people recommended in this book and she was a wacko. Very self absorbed and tried to guide me through my session. She must not have liked me either because she did not follow up as promised and lectured me the entire time. This is not Mr. Newton's fault, but he needs to know some of his recommendations should be more carefully screened.
I did not think I would like this book as much as I have enjoyed earlier works ("Journey of Souls" and "Destiny of Souls") - but I did. Perhaps even more.I have no doubt that some would find this book beyond the pale, and many would doubt the premises raised in those earlier works, and for such readers I would advise you not to buy this book. On the other hand, what you find here is a series of snapshots taken from trained practitioners in LBL (Life Between Lives) hypnotherapy, each example annotated by Michael Newton with footnotes referring to three earlier books for reference.The events were fascinating, and encouraging, provided you had read the previous books. I suspect that if you came here ignorant of those earlier works, you would find this a little fragmented, but still enjoyable. Speaking for myself, however, I found the examples interesting, showed how varied the style of therapist could be, opened up a broader picture of events that were described in that true home of the soul and - for me most importantly - gave a deeper understanding of how I could relate to those events in my life which found a mirror in these stories. I feel that my attitude to the vagaries of life has been influenced, improved and mellowed as a result of looking at the sequence of my life through different eyes.
Several things in particular I'm struck by in these very interesting case studies from all over the world: (1) The very versatile LBL (life between lives) practitioners throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and beyond who have studied at the Newton Institute seem to all be well-trained and integritous; (2) seeing/feeling the common threads in the experiences lend a lot of validity to the process and the experiences; (3) The case studies/stories of between life regressions are both intriguing and comforting. In many of the stories I am finding similarities and potential answers to questions about circumstances in my own life and person/personality -- at the very least I am given a way to look at myself and certain tendencies, issues and challenges in a different light; (4) The importance of soul-awareness and the many lives of the soul are well-supported here and in all Newton's books, and I'm impressed that he did this work for 30 years before "rushing to publish!"; (5) The experiences of so many diverse people supporting the concept of self-evaluation in the eternal power and presence of love is a welcome alternative to the "original sin" and "heaven or hell" dogmas of traditions that have kept humanity hostage for millenia.
